MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES & ACTIVITIES
There are many ways to work with intelligences; I have chosen certain areas, as you will see below, because I feel they are a representation of what my core beliefs and values in life are.
Four intelligences are present every day:
KINESTHETICS: Start every day with Surya Namashkar (Sun Salutation)
CLIMATE: Move om to your weather station, covering precipitation, humidity, wind, temperature, sun, UV filter, air and AQI. Add extreme weather when that occurs, according to your local situation.
HORTICULTURE: Dive into growing your own greens, micro greens, fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, edible flowers, herbs.
VALUES/ETHICS: Next comes excursions to sanctuaries, where it is possible to experience non-violence in action, by adults who believe ANIMALS ARE FRIENDS, NOT FOOD.
KINESTHETICS: By the end of the day, take delight in Chandra Namashkar (Moon Salutation) and talk about what the child enjoyed the most. Look at the stars and watch their patterns and their position appear according to the seasons and the rotation and movement of our planet.
After a couple of weeks a routine settles around your good efforts. When you can see, the child knows the routine well and has become used to it, introduce the other intelligences, one pr. week:
EXISTENTIAL: philosophy and me; who am I; what do I like, and why. This is a deep and sensitive topic; be very cautious and careful and mindful of others' feelings; what children do not say might be more significant than what they actually express verbally. Read books to open for good conversations.
VERBAL/LINGUISTIC: create word cards with paper in different colours for the different word classes: substantives, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, articles, numbers. Once you have a certain amount of all categories, start making small sentences. When a child learns to construct a language you open a whole new world of beauty and magic!
As you expand the work to stimulate multiple intelligences in your child, new words should be added whenever they occur.
MATHS; collect all sorts of natural material and start arranging them in patterns and numbers, increasing and decreasing. You can even create your own maths puzzles.
It is very visual for a child to watch a starry night, and the order of that part of the universe might be incorporated to further an understanding of maths.
TECHNOLOGICAL; there are many wonderful educative games, plays and exercises, built for electronic devices. I will leave it to you to decide, what is best. Personally, I find the online dictionaries fascinating, and would recommend looking up funny, weird words and talk about them. There are ways to research some of the other activities, you plan on doing, as well. And, eventually, you will find other children to communicate with, online; preferable from other cultures and continents to expand the horizons of all children involved.
KINESTHETICS & MUSIC; this calls for some serious fun with dance and music; learning little dances, creating dramas, expressive dance, mime, mime corporale and story telling via movement and music. Any and every idea can be translated into this activity and performed for a smaller or larger audience. If your child has it to express personality traits in this creative way, you are in for an absolute treat, I tell you!
VISUAL/SPATIAL & CULINARY; take pictures and learn about three dimensions, holograms and the way, our eyes focus when seeing a picture. This is visual arts; true arts. It is a scientific fact the way our eyes look for focal points in everything we see and observe. It is called "The Golden Ratio".
Take a printed picture and measure it; move in 3/8 from all four sides and draw four lines. Where they cross there are four focal points. When you take pictures, place the important person or object in one of those points. Work with this and take pictures from many angles. Talk about, why some convey a strong message and others do not.
Treat yourself to some warm, vegan buns with marmalade and tea and enjoy!
INTER/INTRA PERSONAL & NATURALISTIC; read through "Democracy & Family" on this website for some ideas as to how to work with relations within a person and between people.
And do go and spend some time in Nature by the end of a lovely week, where everyone in the family has learned so much.
Keep separate folders for each intelligence, which makes it easier for you to see the progress of the child.
Because they change, and so do we.
Remember, please, your child is not a robot to be programmed for certain outputs!
She/he is a living, feeling, sentient being.
The more you can cross-pollinate between the activities and intelligences, the better for the development of skills, competences and a grounded self-confidence in your child.
When you have worked your way through these exciting challenges, it is time to start all over again.
Repeat this as an integral part of your family and everyday life.
Expand it when necessary, adapt to the age and interests of your child; view this as suggestions, appetisers, to hopefully inspire your child to grab and grow.
And one day, my dear friends, maybe decades from now, your child has grown into a fully fledged adult, capable of managing life in such a way that we can watch her/him fly off and create their own future.
That is worth all the efforts!
Mission accomplished!
